The Opera-Philharmonic Society – Varna has
succeeded Varna Philharmonic Orchestra and Varna Opera
which have more than 50-year long history and rich
artistic biography. The activity of these two
institutions has been traditionally connected with the
Varna Summer International Music Festival. A number of
premieres have been produced on the festival stage.
The founders of orchestra Sasha Popov and Ruslan Raichev
as well as the conductors Yosko Yossifov, Konstantin
Iliev, Emil Glavanakov, Ivan Marinov, Yordan Daffov have
had considerable impact on its artistic development. The
Orchestra has successfully taken part in prestigious
festivals in Bulgaria and abroad - performed as a
visiting orchestra in Germany, the Czech Republic,
Slovakia, Poland, Russia, France, Austria, Spain, etc.
Since the beginning of 2000 Chief Conductor of the
Philharmonic Orchestra has been Stanislav Ushev,
graduated from Rimski-Korsakov Conservatory, St.
Petersburg in operatic and symphonic conducting class
with Prof. Arvid and Maris Jansons. He began his
artistic career as conductor and Artistic Director of
the Pleven Philharmonic Orchestra and since 1996 he has
been Principal Conductor of the Shumen Philharmonic
Orchestra. He has been a guest conductor in Russia,
Spain, France, Romania, Greece, South Korea, Italy,
Japan. Maestro Ushev’s repertoire is rich and varied,
including works of all musical styles and genres. A
number of recordings of contemporary and romantic music
with the Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra
under his direction have been done at the studios of the
National Radio in Sofia.
Kareevi Piano Duo has had an extensive concert
career in Germany and Europe. Their repertoire includes
works for four hands and for two pianos. The
performances of the two pianists comprise also their own
arrangements of diverse pieces for two pianos. Some of
them are recorded on CDs.
On the occasion of the 250th anniversary of Mozart the
well known Bulgarian composer Viktor Chuchkov has
written specially for Kareevi Duo the composition
Amadeus – Fantasy for two pianos and big symphony
orchestra. The work is a variation on the Mozart’s theme
(from the 2nd part of Concerto for piano and orchestra
in A Dur K 414), which is transformed in 11 variations.
The immortal music of Mozart goes through the diversity
of the music world
from different nations and different ages. This work has
been performed in four prestigious concert halls in
Germany and recorded by the Bulgarian National Radio in
February 2006. |
