Dimov String Quartet

Since its establishment in 1956 Dimov String Quartet has won recognition with its
exceptional music style and won the admiration and warm acclaim of the audience in the
country and abroad. The Quartet was prize winner of prestigious international competitions
among them those in Berlin (1960), Budapest (1963), Liege (1964), Munich (1965). Founder
of the quartet and leading violinist for five decades has been Prof. Dimo Dimov.

Through its 50-year long artistic history Dimov Quartet has toured all over the world. They have given concerts in more than 25 countries on four continents, over 50 times they have performed in France. The Quartet has taken part in prestigious festivals such as Karintischer Sommer, those in Strasburg and Avinon, Pablo Casals in France, the festival in Bath, Warsaw Autumn, Prague Summer, Sofia Music Weeks, March Music Days, Varna Summer and many others.

In 1965 in France Dimov String Quartet made its first recording under Harmonia Mundi. Since then they have released more than 80 disks – all Beethoven and Schumann quartets, the quintets and quartets by Mozart and Schubert, the quintets of Boccherini for guitar, musical series History of the String Quartet. They have numerous recordings for the radio and TV in Bulgaria and abroad and many firs performances of works, especially written for them by outstanding Bulgarian and foreign composers, among them M. Goleminov, K. Iliev, L. Pipkov, Dim. Hristov, G. Ferari and others.
