The
Castello Youth Symphony Orchestra
has served for 11 years now the talented musical youth
and it has been a proof of local community’s concern
about the pedagogical work with the young people. During
the last five years under the leadership of Sergio
Alapont, its present artistic director, the orchestra
has grown professionally and turned into formation open
to musicians from the whole Spain. Performers from
outstanding Spanish and foreign orchestras (Berliner
Philarmoniker, Tonhalle of Zurich, Wiener Symphoniker,
Moscow Virtuosi…) have worked with the ensemble. The
Youth Orchestra performs works by C. Franck, Beethoven,
Mozart, Wagner, Ravel, Mahler, Tchaikovsky, Borodin, R.
Strauss and compositions by local authors. It has taken
part in international festivals of youth orchestras in
Valencia, Florence, Euro Arts Festival, World Sacred
Music International Week in Florence and has performed
in many European cities. Three of the Orchestra’s CDs
were released. Trough its complicated repertoire,
professional level of young musicians, international
achievements and their recordings, the Orchestra has won
recognition as one of the best youth orchestras in
Europe.
Sergio Alapont received his music
education in Valencia, Madrid, Munich, New York and
Italy. He has appeared as conductor of symphony and
opera orchestras. He has been Assistant Conductor at the
Metropolitan Opera House, New York, San Francisco Opera,
Wiener Staatsoper. He has conducted orchestras in Spain,
Italy, Germany, Poland, Danmark, France among them are
Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de
Catalunya, Silesian Philarmonich, Bach
Collegium-Stuttgart, Danish National Symphony Orchestra,
Orchestre National d’Ile de France...His pedagogical
work as Artistic Director of Castello Youth Symphony
Orchestra is remarkable. He was winner of II National
Competition for Conductors City of Granada Orchestra
2005. Since 2006 he has been Music Director of National
Ensemble of Spain for Contemporary Music. He has
collaborated with soloists like June Anderson, Teresa
Berganza and Placido Domingo. He has recorded for TVE,
RAI and for labels as EGT, VERSO and UNIVERSAL. Among
his next engagement are those with Wiener Staatsoper,
Bayerische Staatsoper, Poznan Philharmonic Orchestra,
etc. |
