Georg Friedrich Schenck studied with
Claudio Arrau in master courses, he was
a student of Prof. B. Ebert in Hannover,
and undertook further studies with Andre
Watts. Schenck’s ability “to combine
fascinating pianistics with musical
truth” (Andre Watts) comes from an
artistic awareness that tackles
intellectual questions and permeates his
interpretations of repertoire that
ranges from Classical period to
contemporary avant-garde music.
The richness of this universal
understanding which is always
interdisciplinary in its proximity to
the “creative source” has been explained
by Schenck in his book
Interpretationstechnik.
A small selection from his wide-ranging
activities as a pianist will give an
idea of the breadth of his repertoire:
in 1987/88 Schenck performed the
complete Beethoven piano sonatas; in
1988 he brought out a CD featuring the
piano works of Paul Hindemith; the
composer Adriana Hoelszky dedicated the
work Hoerfenster Franz Liszt to him, and
he gave this piece its first performance
in 1989 in Alte Oper, Frankfurt.
Schenck’s repertoire also includes the
complete piano oeuvres of Johannes
Brahms. In 2001, he released a CD
featuring the piano sonatas of
Beethoven.
Georg Friedrich Schenck has given many
successful recitals in Central America,
the USA and Japan, and has been
professor in piano at the Robert
Schumann College of Music in Duesseldorf
since 1986.
