Mie
Miki is hailed as a Queen of the
Classical Accordion. At the age of 8,
she made her first radio broadcast for
NHK in Tokyo and some years later she
moved to Germany to study at the
Trossingen Academy of Music in Germany.
At the age of 25, she became a professor
at Hochschule fur Music in Detmold,
Germany.
After winning the 1st prize at the
International Accordion Competition in
Klingenthal, Germany and the 1st prize
at the International Accordion
Competition in Annecy, France, Mie Miki
soon started her active performing
career in Europe.
In the 80s, she was invited to introduce
the classical accordion for the first
time in China. In 1989, for the first
time ever as an accordionist, she was
awarded the Foerderungspreis des Landes
Nordrhein-Westfalen for young artists in
Germany.
As a soloist, Mie Miki has appeared with
renowned orchestras including the Suisse
Romande Orchestra, NHK Symphony
Orchestra and Belgian National
Orchestra, under such conductors as
Seiji Ozawa, Hiroyuki Iwaki, and Charles
Dutoit.
A concert series entitled Mie Miki
Accordion Works, featuring numerous
premieres, takes place every year in
Tokyo and more than 55 works have been
dedicated to her, by composers such as
Hosokawa, Hoelszky, Hespos, Huber,
Ichiyanagi, Ishii and Takahashi.
Her uniquely composed program with her
wide range repertoire from Baroque to
Contemporary attracts the audiences from
different walks.
More than 30 CDs have been released by
companies such as Philips, Sony, Denon,
etc. Currently, Ms. Miki is a professor
at the Folkwang Hochschule Essen in
Germany, and at the Xinjiang Arts
College in China.
