DIVINO SOSPIRO, the baroque orchestra founded by the Italian musician Massimo Mazzeo, was born of the collaboration of gifted musicians living and working in Portugal.

The orchestra adheres rigorously to the finest stylistic and aesthetic principals of the baroque period and presents a repertoire whose composers represent the best artistic output of the period.

The group has an impressive list among them the appearance at the Folle Journåe 2003 in Lisbon where they presented some of the biggest names in the baroque music - Italian Baroque: From Monteverdi to Vivaldi.

Divino Sospiro received invitations from prestigious festivals and institutions such as the Ancient Music Encounters of Loulå, the Festival d’Ile de France in Paris, La Folle Journåe in Nantes and Lisbon and from the famous Festival d’Ambronay, where it was the first Portuguese orchestra ever presented.

They have had concert tours in Portugal, Italy, Japan and have released CDs featuring works by Mozart, Boccherini, Portuguese music.

They have recently sponsored master classes given by eminent baroque violinists, which is a part of their extensive activity.

Divino Sospiro is currently in residence at the Centro Cultural de Belem in Lisbon and is regularly conducted by the Italian conductor Enrico Onofri.
