Carl Orff himself called CARMINA BURANA scenic
cantata.
The work contains 25
movements scored for soloists, children's choir and
large choir and orchestra (14 of the movements are
performed by the choir).
Carmina Burana was
first staged in Frankfurt in 1937, in San Francisco
1959, in London (concert performance) 1960 and since
then has enjoyed a reputation as one of the most
appealing works of the contemporary music.
The forms of staging
of the numerous performances of Carmina Burana have been
changing permanently but it still remains a bestseller
of the music theatre.
In the history of the
Opera-Philharmonic Society Varna this is the second
staging of Carmina Burana.
The first performance
was on 11 July 2003 on the stage of the Open-air Theatre
within the programme of the Varna Summer International
Music Festival. |
