Michelle Fontaine Lee
A Canadian native who was raised in Hong Kong, Michelle achieved her Master’s degree in Advanced Performance at the Royal College of Music, under the tutelage of Madeleine Mitchell.She plays regularly with pianist Janine Forrester in Kindred Duo at St Mary Abbot’s Church Kensington, St John’s Notting Hill and most recently in Spain. She now performs as a member of London Chamber Players. In 2011, she led the European Vacation Chamber Orchestra as the leader on their tour in Alsace, France. As an advocate of contemporary music, Michelle has performed Steve Reich’s Violin Phase for 4 Violins at Café Oto in Dalston in 2011. In 2012, she showcased music of Iranian artist, Fari Bradley, together with the Resonance Radio Orchestra at the Victoria & Albert Museum. Michelle’s mentors on the violin also include Annalee Patipatankoon, Scott St. John, Lilly Camden, and Michael Ma. Michelle has participated in the Britten-Pears Young Artist Programme and trained as an orchestral player under Antonio Manacorda and Vassily Petrenko. She is in close collaboration with the New London Opera Group, promoting Gilbert & Sullivan’s music and with CLIC Sargent Symphony Orchestra, helping children with cancer. In Canada, Michelle gave performances with the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra at Roy Thomson Hall, as well as Toronto Centre for the Arts. She was invited to tour with L’Orchestre de la Francophonie Canadienne under the baton of Jean-Philippe Tremblay. In the course of her Bachelor’s degree, she led the University of Toronto Symphony Orchestra as Concert Master. During the summers, she enjoys attending festivals such as the Orfeo International Music Festival, Orford Academy, Toronto Summer Music Festival and Domaine Forget.
